Beginning your yoga journey, without the pressure to be good at it.

A few thoughts on arriving exactly as you are, and letting consistency grow from there.

Beginning your yoga journey, without the pressure to be good at it.

A little space to begin.

Your first practice does not need to be a turning point. It can simply be an hour in which you notice your breath, move a little, and let yourself be a beginner.

Choose a class that leaves room for explanation. Let your teacher know that you are new, and remember that taking a rest is part of participating. You can use props, ask questions, and leave a pose whenever you need to.

Start with a rhythm you can return to. One considered practice each week can be more useful than an ambitious schedule that leaves you feeling behind. Notice how you feel afterward, rather than how a posture looks.

There is no finish line here. Over time, the familiar shape of a practice becomes a place to notice what is changing. For now, showing up is enough.
